Introduction & Photos
The Secretary of Commerce established the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council (SAC) to provide advice to the Sanctuary Superintendent and the Director of the Office of Coastal and Aquatic Managed Areas, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Sanctuary Managers) regarding management of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
The Council advises and assists NOAA and the State of Florida in the developing and implementing the comprehensive plan for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The Council functions as a forum for consultation and deliberation between its members and as a source of consensus advice to the Secretary. The Council draws on the expertise of its members and other sources in providing advice and assisting NOAA. This advice represents the collective and individual views of the Council members. For more information on the SAC, see: www.fknms.nos.noaa.gov.
On August 16 and 17, 2005, at the direction and request of the SAC Chair, Bruce Popham, the SAC held a Strategic Planning Retreat at Hawk’s Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. FLASH Resolutions provided the process design and facilitation for this retreat at which SAC members articulated their Vision for the next 5 years, and began defining their goals and objectives.
